Porsche experts will also notice details like the Euro headlights, the factory driving lights, and the black chrome window surrounds, which were optional. Even the rubber strip along the leading edge of the hood and the bellows-like bumper extensions out back are in excellent condition with no UV damage. This is one well-preserved Porsche! Inside, the red plaid interior is extremely popular with vintage Porschephiles, and combined with the black exterior it's simply stunning. The original dash pad is exceptional, the seats are unmarked and almost perfectly preserved, and the optional leather-wrapped steering wheel is tight and clean. This 911 offers optional A/C, which is mildly effective, and certainly welcome in a car that spent its entire life down south. For many enthusiasts, the lack of a sunroof is a big plus, shedding weight and adding structural stability to an already rock-solid car. The lone upgrade is a powerful AM/FM/CD stereo system with a Sony amplifier under the passenger's seat. The 2.7 liter air-cooled flat-six has been recently rebuilt by the pros at Carrera Sports, with receipts totaling almost $9000. All the usual weak spots were addressed, and the jugs are secured by new studs, the Thermactor system was removed, an 11-blade fan was added, and new tensioners installed, so this is a 911 that you can enjoy without the usual worries. There's also a new clutch, and freshly rebuilt Konis all around. New bearings in the steering rack deliver that laser-precise feel that only an early unassisted 911 can deliver, and the 4-wheel discs are powerful in the finest Porsche tradition. The 'cookie cutter' wheels are an unusual sight on a 911, most of which have been swapped over to Fuchs (or fake Fuchs) alloys, and it wears fresh 205/60/15 front and 215/60/15 rear Yokohama performance radials. With just three owners from new, including the most recent who has owned it for 31 years, this is a heavily documented, expertly maintained 911S.
